Role overview

This opportunity is for a Scrum Master in Test at Barclays, based in Pune. The position focuses on helping location strategy initiatives land on schedule, within budget, to the agreed quality level, and in line with governance expectations. The role sits at the centre of Agile delivery, with a strong emphasis on execution discipline, stakeholder alignment, and continuous improvement.

You will work across multiple feature teams, help strengthen delivery practices, and support a high-performance culture. The role also involves partnering with engineering, architecture, platform, and product leaders to keep delivery realistic, stable, and transparent.

Key responsibilities

As the Scrum Master, you will be expected to own delivery health across your teams, remove blockers, improve flow, and ensure Agile ceremonies and artefacts are effective. You will also support senior reporting, governance, and recovery planning when risks arise.

• Lead and coordinate several feature teams directly, taking end-to-end responsibility for Agile execution across them.
• Run Scrum ceremonies so they stay purposeful, efficient, and aligned to enterprise delivery expectations.
• Serve as the main escalation point for issues affecting delivery within the teams you support.
• Coach and guide other Scrum Masters so that Agile practices remain consistent and disciplined.
• Own the quality of user stories, including well-defined acceptance criteria, readiness, and alignment with technical standards.
• Make sure stories, defects, and action items are closed in a timely way, with minimal spillover or aged work.
• Provide clear and timely reporting on delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and metrics.
• Step into Technical Delivery Manager responsibilities during release automation, including readiness, sequencing, and dependency coordination.
• Work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Platform, and Product leaders to confirm feasibility and delivery stability.
• Use flow, delivery, and quality measures to spot bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement.
• Present delivery status, risks, and recovery actions in senior governance meetings.
• Promote Agile values, accountability, and a strong delivery culture across the team.
• Support the smooth running of Agile events, backlog refinement, stakeholder collaboration, and impediment removal.
• Shield the squad from interruptions, escalate risks when needed, and help build a high-performing team environment.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring senior-level Agile leadership experience, a hands-on delivery mindset, and the confidence to influence across a large organisation.

• 12–15+ years of overall experience, with substantial exposure to Agile and delivery leadership roles.
• At least 5 years of experience working as a senior Scrum Master, Agile Lead, or in a similar role.
• Proven ability to manage multiple feature teams directly.
• Experience mentoring other Scrum Masters while still remaining accountable for delivery.
• Strong experience in large enterprise environments; regulated-industry exposure is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and enterprise Agile delivery approaches.
• Experience handling both Scrum Master and Technical Delivery Manager responsibilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at senior levels.
• Strong command of delivery metrics, reporting, and governance practices.
• Ability to assess risk, support change and transformation, and work with digital and technology teams.

Purpose of the role

This role exists to enable Agile teams to work effectively under Scrum principles. The Scrum Master removes obstacles, strengthens collaboration, improves communication, and helps the team deliver high-quality results in short iterations. The position also acts as a connector between the team and external stakeholders.

• Iteration execution is well controlled, with strong artefacts and continuous customer value.
• Team flow improves through active removal of conflict and other blockers.

• Stakeholders, including business teams, product groups, and vendors, work together effectively and trust is maintained.
• Governance data remains accurate and reporting is provided whenever needed.
