The company delivers sampling, analytical testing, and specialist microbiology and analytical support across food, environmental, medical device, biopharmaceutical, and pharmaceutical settings. Its managed service model can be delivered either on a client’s premises or from CLS facilities.
Role Summary
CLS is seeking a Microbiology Analyst to support GMP-controlled manufacturing environments with routine microbiological testing and related laboratory tasks. You will work within the microbiology team and report to the Microbiology Lab Supervisor, carrying out testing in line with GMP and ISO 17025 standards.
This position is practical and lab-based, ideal for someone with a strong interest in microbiology, contamination control, and compliance within pharmaceutical and medical device operations.
Key Duties
- Run routine microbiology assays such as bioburden, endotoxin, sterility, environmental monitoring, and water analysis according to approved methods.
- Complete environmental monitoring for cleanrooms and controlled areas, covering both viable and non-viable checks.
- Collect surface, air, personnel, and water samples when required.
- Set up, incubate, review, and interpret samples and culture media.
- Enter and maintain accurate results in LIMS and other laboratory record systems.
- Ensure testing and records remain aligned with GMP, GDP, and internal laboratory procedures.
- Assist with investigations into OOS findings, deviations, non-conformances, and environmental excursions.
- Help with housekeeping, equipment verification, stock management, and media preparation.
- Support method validation, qualification, and ongoing lab improvement work.
- Take part in internal audits, client audits, and quality system activities as needed.
- Work closely with colleagues and customers to deliver accurate results on time.
- Contribute to Lean Laboratory and continuous improvement efforts.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a QC Microbiology Analyst with prior exposure to, or genuine interest in, microbiological testing in GMP-regulated settings. You should be methodical, highly organised, and committed to quality and compliance. A collaborative mindset and a desire to expand technical capability across a range of microbiology activities are important for success in this role.
Required Background
- A third-level qualification in Microbiology or a closely related scientific field.
- At least 1 year of experience in a microbiology laboratory operating under GMP conditions.
- Prior experience with environmental monitoring, bioburden, endotoxin, sterility, or water testing would be beneficial.
- Working knowledge of GMP and regulatory expectations such as FDA or EU GMP, or a strong willingness to build that expertise.
- Strong attention to detail, solid organisational ability, and a proactive approach to solving problems.
What CLS Offers
- Exposure to a wide variety of microbiological testing across pharmaceutical and medical device environments.
- A supportive and team-oriented laboratory culture.
- Opportunities to participate in continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
- Training and career development opportunities within one of Ireland’s leading contract laboratory service organisations.
