Role overview

This position is for a Commis I in the Food and Beverage & Culinary team at a luxury hotel in Doha, Qatar. The role is a full-time, non-management position based onsite at the Conference Centre Street location in West Bay. It focuses on preparing food to the required recipes, quality, presentation, and hygiene standards while supporting smooth kitchen operations.

Key duties

• Prepare special dishes and substitute menu items when needed.
• Control oven, broiler, grill, and roaster temperatures during cooking.
• Move frozen food to refrigeration for proper thawing.
• Plate food with correct portions, arrangement, and garnish.
• Keep food logs updated and monitor the quality and quantity of prepared items.
• Support the team during busy periods and alert the Chef when extra food can be used for daily specials.
• Inform service staff about specials and items that are unavailable.
• Prepare hot and cold dishes in line with recipes, standards, and preparation checklists.
• Help ensure food quality remains consistent across service.

Additional responsibilities

• Support supervisors and management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, coaching, counseling, and employee motivation when required.
• Follow company policies, safety rules, and security procedures at all times.
• Report maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to the manager.
• Complete any required safety training and certifications.
• Maintain a clean, professional uniform and personal appearance.
• Protect confidential information and safeguard company assets.
• Respond promptly to guest service needs and communicate clearly and professionally.
• Build positive working relationships and contribute to team goals.
• Listen carefully and respond appropriately to coworker concerns.
• Meet quality expectations and standards consistently.
• Carry out physical tasks that involve standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, pulling, lifting, carrying, and moving items up to 25 pounds without assistance.
• Perform other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.

Preferred qualifications

The employer prefers candidates with a Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree and at least 3 years of related work experience. No supervisory experience is required, and no license or certification is specified.
