Role overview
The Category Coordinator helps keep category operations running smoothly by working with Category Managers and cross-functional teams. The role supports sourcing execution, procurement coordination, supplier engagement, record management, and logistics follow-up so products and services within the assigned category move without disruption.
Business context
UltraTech Building Solutions is structured with a broader product and service mix to better serve home builders and strengthen its position in the building solutions market. The goal is to deepen customer retention, grow the retail network, and increase retail sales. The business is expanding aggressively, with plans to scale the format through a wider range of products and services across outlets. The roadmap targets more than 6,000 stores, retail cement sales contributing 16% of total UltraTech trade sales, and non-cement sales of 3,000 Cr by FY 26.
The building solutions channel is changing quickly as customers increasingly expect trust, convenience, and expert guidance in one place while building their homes. The UBS channel currently covers 15+ categories, 65 brands, about 13,000 SKUs, and 4,000 stores. Market conditions vary significantly every 100 km, with many local brands and price points competing to meet local demand.
A major objective of the channel is to capture the largest possible share of wallet from individual home builders through each store. Achieving this requires strong sourcing, product display, and selling capabilities at every outlet. The categories within the channel sit under three major umbrellas: UTCL Brands, Birla paints, and the Birla pivot platform. There is a substantial opportunity to onboard the full range of brands and categories into dealer stores.
Another important challenge is bringing as many hyperlocal distributors and OEMs as possible onto the UBS platform so that dealers can offer customers a wider assortment. Pricing decisions involve many critical ground-level nuances, so tight coordination and strong process control are essential to keep UBS offerings competitive.
Key challenges
- Collecting information from multiple sources and consolidating it accurately.
- Keeping store data current, including product codes, geographies, UBS team associations, and correct sales figures.
- Handling a large SKU base across several categories.
- Resolving a high volume of pricing and B2B portal queries within a short turnaround time, especially around month-end.
- Sharing monthly sales with multiple vendors, confirming figures, and calculating TODs based on those confirmations.
- Managing commercial reconciliations between UltraTech and brand teams.
- Maintaining accurate DVCM mapping.
- Improving back-end processes that support category sales in coordination with platform, commercial, allied brand, and IT/digital teams.
Core responsibilities
- Support supplier performance tracking and ensure compliance with agreed contractual terms.
- Work with Category Managers to build strong, ongoing relationships with suppliers.
- Coordinate logistics and inventory-related activities to help ensure product availability on time.
- Coordinate with vendor SPOCs to keep product, price, and discount masters updated on the portal at regular intervals.
- Maintain DVCM information on the portal.
- Track vendor payment documentation and follow up with the Birla Pivot Finance team.
- Stay closely connected with partner brands to remain informed about new plants, distributor points, and product lines so that product availability and channel coverage remain strong.
- Handle category-related administrative work such as documentation, filing, and record maintenance.
- Prepare and maintain reports, presentations, and other category materials as needed.
- Ensure smooth communication among Category Managers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Resolve routine operational issues quickly and escalate complex matters to the right stakeholders when needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve category workflows and support implementation of better processes.
- Work with the platform team to improve the user experience for dealers and vendors, especially around SKU pricing, discounts, and catalogue management.
- Use data and reporting to support category insights and decision-making.
- Maintain accurate supplier, product, and contract data for the category.
- Review SKU-level margins continuously and ensure TOD credits are received by UltraTech on time, with timely issue resolution.
- Coordinate with vendors and the UTCL commercial team on CDs and CNs so credit notes are punched into dealer accounts promptly.
- Perform account reconciliation with vendors in line with the prescribed SOP.
Additional information
The role requires close coordination across multiple stakeholder groups and a strong focus on process discipline, data accuracy, and timely issue closure. It also involves working on portal-related master data, pricing and discount updates, vendor settlement support, and commercial reconciliation activities.
