Role overview
A leading civil contractor is hiring a Branch Manager to take charge of its South Island, New Zealand operation. This permanent position involves full responsibility for a branch with around $20 million in turnover and oversight of maintenance contracts, subdivision projects, quarry activity, and chip plant work.
What you will do
- Lead day-to-day operations and provide direction for the South Canterbury branch.
- Improve performance across maintenance, civil works, quarrying, and chip sealing/plant operations.
- Build productive working relationships with clients, local councils, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
- Manage project delivery so safety, quality, schedule, and financial targets are consistently met.
- Handle tendering and estimating to help win upcoming work.
- Take ownership of branch budgets, forecasting, profitability, and overall financial results.
- Support, coach, and develop team members while promoting a positive and high-performing workplace.
- Ensure the branch meets health, safety, environmental, and quality obligations.
- Spot and pursue opportunities to grow the business in the region.
What we are looking for
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field.
- Solid leadership background in civil construction, roading, infrastructure, or maintenance.
- Strong grasp of operational leadership, estimating, commercial outcomes, and project delivery.
- Proven ability to create and maintain long-term client partnerships.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and developing people.
- Strong commercial judgement with accountability for budgets and profit and loss performance.

- Salary of $170,000 to $190,000, plus a company vehicle, with flexibility based on experience.
