Role overview

This opportunity is with a leading pet retail group in North America, operating under several well-known banners. The business is focused on serving families with products for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and small animals, while also supporting local animal shelters, rescues and charities through adoption events, in-store adoptions at selected locations, pet food bank initiatives, donation drives and fundraising efforts.

In this position, you will lead and develop the store team to deliver outstanding service and help pet owners choose the right nutrition and other solutions for their animals. The role suits someone who enjoys learning, growing within the pet care industry and working in a customer-focused retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Make sure the team consistently meets customer service expectations and maintains positive, respectful connections with the local community, including organizations such as humane societies.
• Lead the store team through hiring support, scheduling, training, daily task allocation, supervision and ongoing coaching.
• Ensure all employees follow corporate operating standards and procedures.
• Handle store administration, including placing orders, maintaining proper inventory, completing store and safety audits, arranging small repairs and finishing routine corporate paperwork.
• Coordinate the team’s efforts to meet store performance targets and business goals.
• Carry out additional related duties as needed.

What you bring

• At least 2 years of experience in customer service and retail store management.
• Strong interest in learning and advancing within the pet care sector.
• A warm, outgoing personality paired with solid customer service ability.
• Availability to work the scheduled hours, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Reliable transportation to and from the store.
• Ability to observe staff performance and provide coaching on sales techniques and customer service quality.
• Good judgement to recognize team conflicts and escalate issues when appropriate.
• Working knowledge of a point-of-sale system.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Previous industry experience is considered an advantage.
