Role overview
This position is for an experienced payroll specialist who can handle intricate, high-impact work across multiple countries. The role focuses on delivering accurate payroll operations, strengthening compliance, supporting growth projects, and improving the overall employee experience through reliable and efficient payroll practices.
Core responsibilities
The role involves acting as a payroll expert for selected countries, supporting expansion and acquisition-related payroll work, and building dependable control processes. It also includes keeping payroll activities aligned with local legal requirements, producing detailed documentation and knowledge resources, and continually improving payroll operations.
- Serve as the payroll subject matter expert for the assigned countries.
- Support payroll workstreams in mergers, acquisitions, and expansion initiatives.
- Create and put in place strong control mechanisms.
- Ensure payroll practices remain compliant with local laws and regulations.
- Prepare thorough technical documents and knowledge materials.
- Lead end-to-end payroll improvement efforts.
- Perform root cause analysis for complex payroll issues.
- Refine and streamline payroll processes.
- Use financial analysis to support decisions and operational changes.
- Track and improve operational performance.
- Develop and sustain productive relationships with important stakeholders.
- Advise cross-functional teams with specialist payroll knowledge.
- Facilitate process improvement discussions and initiatives.
- Collaborate across departments to resolve issues and implement solutions.
- Guide and mentor team members.
Required background
Candidates should have solid payroll or HR experience, strong English fluency, advanced Excel capability, and deep knowledge of statutory and controllership topics such as tax, labour law, social security, garnishments, pensions, benefits, and terminations. The role also calls for comfort working through ambiguity, balancing competing priorities, managing stakeholders, analysing large datasets, and identifying root causes with preventive fixes.
- Strong customer service mindset.
- At least 3 years of payroll or HR experience.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and formulas.
- Strong understanding of compliance and controllership areas such as tax, labour code, social security, garnishments, pension, benefits, and terminations.
- Ability to perform well in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with competing priorities.
- Proven stakeholder management ability.
- Experience improving processes and operational workflows.
- Experience handling complex data analysis and using data to drive fact-based decisions.
- Ability to identify root causes and implement scalable preventive solutions.
Preferred experience
It is advantageous to have over 5 years of payroll operations experience in Europe or the Middle East, along with project leadership experience, exposure to cross-functional teams, and German language skills.
