Safety Engineer – Base / Heavy Maintenance

Ryanair Engineering is hiring a Safety Engineer to support the Base and Heavy Maintenance teams, working solely on Ryanair Group aircraft. The position is focused on strengthening Safety Management System (SMS) practices and building local ownership of safety.

The company is looking for a licensed B1 or B2 engineer to serve as the main point of contact for occurrence investigations at base level within Heavy Maintenance. This role is part of the maintenance organisation and reports to the Base Maintenance Manager. It ensures that Engineering Safety Reports (ESRs) and other occurrences are examined by qualified, operationally experienced people. The role also works closely with the Safety Department to keep investigations consistent, high quality, and compliant with regulations.

The Safety Engineer must have access to all levels of management and production in order to carry out the role effectively. The ideal applicant will be an experienced, proactive engineer with strong analytical skills and a clear commitment to ongoing safety improvement.

This position may be located at any Heavy Maintenance site, and the successful candidate will be hired locally at the selected site. Resumes must be submitted in English only.

Responsibilities

• Investigate maintenance mistakes and technical events linked to aircraft incidents.
• Review events and occurrences that may affect the safety of Ryanair and Heavy Maintenance operations.
• Record and manage safety occurrences in the safety reporting system.
• Prepare reports and supporting documents.
• Coordinate responses to safety reports with production staff.
• Identify hazards, assist with risk assessments, and monitor risk mitigation actions through to completion.
• Support communication on safety topics with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Help create safety-related materials such as presentations, newsletters, briefings, and visual content.
• Work with Compliance Monitoring, Technical Standards, Maintenance Management, Maintenance Personnel, and other teams to drive continuous improvement and safe operations.

Requirements

• An EASA B1 or B2 licence is essential.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Confident and clear communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Current airport security clearance, or the ability to obtain it.
• A valid passport with unrestricted travel rights within the UK/EU and a valid driving licence.
• Preferred but not essential: experience or knowledge in aviation safety standards and safety investigation methods.
• Preferred but not essential: basic understanding of EASA and UK CAA regulations.
• Preferred but not essential: familiarity with Safety Management System (SMS) principles.
