Role overview
The NWT Seniors’ Society is hiring a Project Coordinator to help deliver a community project focused on reducing social isolation among older adults across 10 communities in the Northwest Territories. The role involves working with local facilitators and supporting a project funded through New Horizons for Seniors, a Government of Canada program.
This is a temporary assignment that will continue until April 2024. The organization offers flexible hours and a hybrid arrangement, allowing some work from home if desired.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate project activities aimed at supporting older adults and lowering social isolation in NWT communities.
- Work closely with local facilitators and partner organizations to keep the project moving forward.
- Support communication, coordination, and collaboration across multiple stakeholders.
- Assist with basic finance-related tasks connected to the project.
- Use computer systems, Microsoft tools, and collaboration/data-management software to organize and track project information.
- Travel to small northern communities by air or land when required.
Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a range of organizations and partners.
- Comfort with conflict resolution and facilitation.
- Working knowledge of basic finance.
- Good computer skills, especially in Microsoft applications, and willingness or ability to learn collaboration and data management tools.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working on seniors’ issues and concerns; experience in Indigenous settings and/or remote northern communities is preferred.
- Ability to travel to small northern communities by air or land.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search as a condition of employment.
- Diploma or degree in the social sciences; equivalent experience or education may be considered.
Additional information
The role reports to the Executive Director of the NWT Seniors’ Society. The organization is based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. A full position description can be provided on request.
