Overview
This role is for an Offshore Inspector supporting operations in Qatar. The position is based onshore and focuses on inspection work during the EPC and startup stages through to handover to the permanent asset team, helping ensure the new facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably by identifying defects early.
Key Duties
- Carry out and support inspection activities throughout EPC and startup phases until handover, following established procedures, policies, instructions, and performance targets.
- Perform external visual checks and, when needed, accompanying NDT examinations on company assets such as vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, pressure safety devices, piping, and lifting equipment, then prepare inspection reports.
- Conduct initial integrity reviews of static equipment and piping, interpret findings, and document outcomes in inspection reports using Meridium or comparable software.
- Inspect maintenance and capital project work in the field to confirm compliance with maintenance practices, welding, painting, fabrication, installation requirements, and applicable international standards and codes.
- Perform or oversee NDT activities on mechanical equipment and piping as directed, including dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, hardness, eddy current, IRIS, thermography, PMI, metallography, boroscopy, and other specialized tests such as DFT measurement and ferrometer checks for stainless steel welding.
- Follow all safety procedures while executing inspection and testing work.
- Create inspection recommendations through Meridium or relevant notifications and follow them through to closure to reduce operational risk.
- Keep inspection instruments, tools, and equipment in good working order and coordinate the planning or purchase of additional items when needed.
- Take on extra inspection assignments assigned by the Inspection Engineer or Senior Inspection Engineer to meet annual goals and special requirements.
- Maintain complete inspection documentation and records, including updates in computerized systems and SAP notifications, and monitor corrective work through to completion.
- Coordinate and oversee contractor resources when required to ensure service quality and adherence to company expectations.
Qualifications and Experience
- HND in Engineering.
- At least 4 years of hands-on in-service inspection experience.
Skills and Technical Knowledge
- Strong command of spoken and written English.
- Good computer skills with MS Word and Excel, plus familiarity with relevant software tools and specifications.
- Working knowledge of Meridium or a similar data management platform.
- Understanding of risk-based inspection, corrosion control, and damage mechanisms.
- Basic knowledge of plant processes and materials.
- Familiarity with inspection methods such as UT, MT, PT, RT, and advanced NDT techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant international codes and specifications.
- API 510/570 or equivalent certification, with API 653 as required.
