Role overview
As a Junior Purchasing Officer within Cubic Integrated Supply Chain, you will support CTS APAC purchasing activity by turning requisitions into purchase orders and keeping procurement work flowing smoothly. The role reports to the APAC Team Leader in Queensland and is generally performed with limited supervision.
About the company
Cubic develops technology solutions that improve everyday transportation journeys and strengthen defence capabilities. Its global teams focus on delivering innovation and service across businesses such as Cubic Transportation Systems and Cubic Defense.
Core responsibilities
- Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders from the SAP buyer queue, following agreed service levels.
- Make sure purchasing decisions deliver value for money, align with Cubic policies, and avoid unethical or unfair buying practices.
- Research, negotiate, renew, cancel, or launch competitive bids for materials, parts, equipment, and services used by Cubic.
- Assess product quality, comparable alternatives, pricing factors, warranty terms, and specific item requirements.
- Identify improved or alternative sources for materials, tools, parts, and services, and assess vendors for reliability and on-time delivery capability.
- Use high-volume purchasing opportunities where appropriate to reduce overall costs.
- Review the weekly overdue PO report, follow up on outstanding items, update due dates, and add notes or supporting attachments when needed.
- Work with internal teams on changing product and service requirements and respond promptly to employee questions.
- Coordinate closely with the APAC Procurement team to help maintain role coverage.
- Handle blocked invoices from Accounts so vendor payments can be processed without delay.
- Submit a weekly report to the Procurement Manager covering achievements, issues, and other relevant updates.
- Support closure of Corrective Action Requests.
- When needed, process goods receipts for incoming deliveries, including offsite locations, and resolve any discrepancies quickly.
- May also support shipping and export compliance, including freight quotations, bookings, pickup/drop-off coordination, and tracking.
Additional duties and compliance
- Follow Cubic’s Quality Management System requirements.
- Work in line with Cubic occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Adhere to security policies and procedures established by the organisation.
- Comply with Cubic human resources procedures.
- Carry out other tasks as requested.
Experience and knowledge needed
Applicants should understand the purchasing cycle, including requests for quotation, and have experience using SAP ERP and Microsoft-based systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with excellent customer service capability.
Preferred experience includes working in a technology-focused environment, ideally with warehousing exposure, as well as prior procurement experience. It is also helpful to be able to read specifications, drawings, and bills of materials; negotiate with vendors; compare quotations against specifications; track changing market conditions; and handle a range of buying activities.
Personal attributes
The ideal candidate is flexible, comfortable with change, organised, methodical, and able to manage time effectively. You should also be able to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels, both in speech and in writing.
Employment conditions
Employment is subject to a successful National Police Check. Because Cubic operates globally across multiple time zones, the role may occasionally require availability outside standard working hours to address urgent issues or respond to communications from the company, customers, or suppliers.
Equal opportunity
Cubic is committed to an inclusive workplace and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Selection is based on merit and the company does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic.
