Cyclic Crew Member

Role overview

Higgins is seeking a Cyclic Crew Member to join the Maintenance JV team supporting the Ara Tūhono Pūhoi to Warkworth PPP project. The project extends State Highway 1’s northern motorway by 18.5 km, from the Johnstones Hill Tunnels through to Warkworth.

This position is practical and varied, with a strong focus on keeping the road network safe, clean, and functioning effectively. You will take responsibility for your work area, collaborate with your crew, and participate in an on-call roster for incident response when required.

Key duties

• Perform scheduled upkeep across road surfaces, drainage, signs, and other roadside infrastructure.
• Carry out small-scale pavement fixes such as filling potholes, sealing cracks, and repairing edge damage.
• Look after vegetation, rest areas, and the overall appearance of the roadside environment.
• Use small machinery, hand tools, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
• Take part in incident response and attend after-hours callouts on a rostered basis.
• Log completed work and maintain records through tablets and mobile devices.

What you need to succeed

• A full Class 1 driver licence is required; Class 2, Class 4, or WTR is an advantage.
• Hands-on background in civil works, roading, or maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to operate tools, compact plant, and vehicles confidently and safely.
• Strong organisation skills and the ability to work both alone and within a team.
• Clear and professional communication with crew members, contractors, and members of the public.
• A solid commitment to health and safety and to completing work correctly the first time.
