Role overview
This position focuses on delivering cleaning services to the agreed specification and timetable while maintaining and steadily improving service quality. The role also carries a strong duty of care for personal safety, as well as the safety of colleagues, clients, visitors, and anyone else who may be impacted by the work.
Key duties
- Complete window cleaning work in line with the correct method statement, service specification, and health and safety requirements.
- Keep the supervisor informed of any site changes or issues.
- Work with the supervisor or line manager to review sites and monitor assigned work through the Jobber allocation system.
- Arrive on time and attend work as scheduled.
- Maintain a strong team approach and consistently deliver high-quality results.
- Work continuously to raise and improve standards of cleanliness and service quality.
- Meet the expectations of managers, clients, and the company.
- Carry out any reasonable instruction from the company or client.
- Ensure cleaning materials, tools, and equipment are looked after and stored correctly.
- Use personal judgment to solve issues where suitable.
- Maintain a professional appearance and behaviour, and wear the required clothing and PPE at all times.
- Report any cleaning problems that remain unresolved.
Knowledge, experience, and working style
Prior experience in cleaning is required. The role calls for tact and diplomacy when dealing with client staff and visitors, along with the ability to gain cooperation across different levels.
Responsibility and accountability
The post holder is expected to check the quality of their own work and, when needed, support or oversee less experienced colleagues. They are also responsible for the proper care of tools and other resources used in the role, whether those assets belong to the client or to Pareto. Confidentiality must be maintained in relation to both the company and the client.
Communication and liaison
Communication is mainly verbal and written, and is typically internal, involving the site manager and the client’s staff. At times, the role may also involve contact with contractors, visitors, inspectors, and governing bodies. The cleaner’s conduct can influence the client’s image, costs, and operational efficiency.
Decision-making and problem-solving
Work is usually allocated, and the holder is often expected to decide how best to complete it, sometimes by following specifications and team discussions. Priorities may change during the day, and routine decisions are made using personal experience, initiative, or guidance from the client’s appointed contact. Many tasks require practical problem-solving and independent handling of technical issues, with support from the Site Manager or client contact for unusual situations.
Focus, flexibility, and working conditions
The role demands constant alertness, especially when using machinery and when following health and safety procedures closely. Duties can vary widely, with interruptions coming mainly from internal sources such as the Site Manager or other Pareto staff. The post holder may need to respond immediately to some requests and delay others depending on priorities. Additional tasks outside the normal duties may also be assigned. Work is carried out in different environments, mainly indoors.
