About the company

Fidelity Investments is a global leader in mutual fund and ETF management, known for research-led and disciplined investing. The organization provides a broad range of products and services to investors through third-party brokers and financial advisors, with a strong focus on helping investment professionals support their clients’ retirement and other major financial goals.

What the role involves

The Project Manager leads teams in a complex matrix environment to deliver cross-functional, often technical projects for multiple business lines. Depending on the initiative, work may be delivered using either waterfall or agile practices. The role also helps strengthen team effectiveness by promoting and coaching agile ways of working within established frameworks.

Key responsibilities

  • Create project charters and build detailed plans covering scope, schedule, budget estimates and baselines, resource allocation, quality planning, and success measures.
  • Complete required governance approvals, forms, and presentation materials for project stage gates.
  • Set up project communication routines and monitoring controls.
  • Oversee daily project execution, making sure deliverables stay on track while risks and issues are identified, tracked, and resolved.
  • Guide project teams in a matrix structure by clarifying responsibilities, providing direction and feedback, and ensuring effective communication support.
  • Work with the Project Management Office to align with portfolio, program, and project standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Apply reporting, control, and change management practices to keep time, cost, scope, performance, and quality under control, and to report progress and issues promptly to sponsors, executive sponsors, and senior leaders.
  • Ensure post-implementation reviews are planned and completed according to Fidelity standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors, industry partners, and internal business teams to identify innovative solutions using new technologies and alternate processes.
  • Help prepare RFPs, review proposals and statements of work, and support vendor selection.
  • Serve as a central coordination point for meetings, tasks, relationships, and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Define product goals and backlog items in a clear, actionable way for the project team.
  • Resolve blockers caused by unclear backlog items or shifting scope.
  • Facilitate collaboration between business and technology stakeholders.
  • Provide periodic guidance and coaching on agile practices across the organization.
  • Review and improve how effectively the organization is adopting agile methods.
  • Remove barriers between stakeholders and project teams to keep work moving.
  • Track and report team performance using KPIs such as burn-down charts, burn-up charts, velocity, value creation, and input from the team, business owner, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A university degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Certified Scrum Master or Professional Scrum Master certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project or program management and/or a Scrum Master role.
  • Strong background in leading business and systems delivery teams with project management and agile methods.
  • Solid knowledge of project management and agile frameworks, principles, and processes.
  • Strong coaching and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to help teams become self-organized and team-focused.
  • Comfort with change, transparency, inspection, and adaptation.
  • Confidence working across multiple teams.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with cross-divisional teams, senior leaders, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.

Compensation and benefits

The role offers an annual base salary range of $105,000 to $164,000, plus a discretionary performance bonus, depending on experience and qualifications. After 6 months of employment, Fidelity also contributes to an RRSP without requiring employee matching.
