Job overview
This role is for a Planner who will use established planning and scheduling knowledge to support straightforward project scheduling challenges with periodic direction from senior colleagues and leadership. The position focuses on evaluating practical options, applying standard methods, and steadily building understanding of the organization, its processes, and its clients. The planner will use technical know-how, sound judgment, and past examples to interpret business priorities and resolve scheduling issues in a structured way.
Key responsibilities
- Create and keep updated logically connected level 3 and level 4 EPFCIC schedules for offshore and onshore oil and gas projects, following precedence flow diagrams and best-practice methods under the guidance of senior planners.
- Build workforce histograms, as well as progress and quantity curves, to support schedule analysis.
- Track and review the order of engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, hook-up, commissioning, and related work so that critical-path control and overall project timelines are maintained.
- Identify schedule delays, push for resolution of obstructing activities, and assess schedule changes when unexpected conditions arise.
- Compile the resource, material, tool, and equipment lists needed for work package input.
- Apply strong understanding of advanced work package concepts and work package administration.
- Develop, assign resources to, level, and update activities in line with earned value management systems.
Requirements
- An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Business Management, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Five to seven years of planning experience on offshore or onshore oil and gas projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to use advanced Excel functions and tools such as curves, histograms, pivot-style dynamic tables, and formulas.
- Understanding of Primavera P6 and how it integrates with other software and related disciplines.
- Capability to coach junior team members and deliver functional training.
- Ability to interpret available information to respond to data requests effectively.
- Skill in analyzing datasets to identify added insight and useful correlations.
- Ability to review projects using historical data and current trends to generate useful project insight.
- Strong critical-thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Capability to organize, update, and store data appropriately.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
