Role Overview
The Material Handler is responsible for keeping materials and components moving smoothly through the operation. This includes receiving, storing, supplying, and distributing materials so production teams have what they need on time. The role works in close coordination with production, inventory control, kitting, and shipping/receiving teams to support uninterrupted workflow and reduce downtime.
Key Duties
- Unload and load materials safely from trucks, containers, and other delivery vehicles.
- Inspect arriving materials for quality, quantity, and alignment with purchase orders and specifications.
- Place materials and components in the correct storage locations while following safety, organization, and access standards.
- Maintain clean, orderly, and unobstructed storage areas so items can be found quickly and space is used efficiently.
- Track stock levels regularly and escalate low inventory to the inventory manager or supervisor.
- Take part in periodic physical inventory checks and reconcile actual counts with system records.
- Pick, pack, and move materials to the relevant production areas within required timeframes.
- Assist with receiving and handling indirect materials when required.
- Communicate promptly about waste disposal with the designated contractors.
Experience and Requirements
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of safe material-handling practices in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Basic understanding of inventory control and shipping/receiving workflows.
- Ability to use forklifts, pallet jacks, and similar material-handling equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational ability.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Valid forklift or reach truck license is required.
- Physical capability to lift, carry, and move materials of different sizes and weights.
- Prior use of ERP systems, especially SAP, is an advantage.
Education
A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required. Technical or vocational training in logistics, warehouse operations, or a related field is considered a plus.
