Role Overview

JPMorganChase is hiring an Economics Research Analyst for its Global Research Center in Mumbai. The role supports the global economics research platform by studying macroeconomic and financial market developments across frontier and emerging markets. You will use quantitative and econometric methods, work with large datasets, and help produce research that is used by both internal teams and external clients.

About the Team

The Global Research Center in Mumbai was established in August 2003 as an extension of the firm’s worldwide equity research capabilities. Over time, the team has grown into a broad analyst group covering important sectors across global markets.

The Commercial & Investment Bank Research & Analytics group brings together specialists across origination, products, research, data analytics, and strategy. The team supports corporations, institutions, and organizations with advanced analytics and solutions, while offering a fast-moving global environment that helps build financial, analytical, quantitative, coding, and interpersonal capabilities.

Program Objective

The program is intended to strengthen both technical and professional capabilities, help you build meaningful networks, and support long-term career growth. It also offers exposure to business problem-solving and the chance to create solutions that have a real impact on clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess macroeconomic, financial, and policy factors affecting different economies, especially in emerging and frontier markets.
• Build, maintain, and refine econometric and quantitative models for forecasting, scenario work, and policy assessment.
• Collect, clean, and analyze large and complex datasets using tools such as Eviews and Python, and turn the findings into charts, tables, and publication-ready outputs.
• Research, read, and distill information from news stories, academic papers, and data references.
• Improve and automate research workflows while protecting data quality and reproducibility.
• Create Excel charts, Word files, and PowerPoint decks for meetings and published research.
• Contribute to recurring and ad hoc publications such as market commentary, deep-dive notes, and thematic reports.
• Communicate research insights clearly in both written and verbal formats for internal stakeholders and external clients.
• Prepare chart books, templates, and visual materials for weekly, monthly, and on-demand publications.
• Work closely with Asia-based and global teams to share updates and insights.
• Partner with economists, strategists, and research teams to develop forecasts, views, and practical recommendations.
• Help organize investor events, webinars, and conferences.
• Maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support publication writing and respond to client questions when needed.
• Track global macro trends, regulatory updates, and market events relevant to the covered economies.
• Synthesize market intelligence from news, research, and documentation to support forecasting and analysis.

Required Skills and Capabilities

• Solid grasp of macroeconomics and statistical methods such as multiple regression.
• Programming ability for data handling and statistical analysis using tools like Eviews, Python, and VBA.
• Strong reading comprehension to summarize economic articles and related material.
• Clear communication skills for presenting research findings in writing and speaking.
• Strong quantitative and econometric ability, including time-series analysis, panel data, and forecasting methods.
• Excellent organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
• Curiosity, flexibility, and a strong sense of ownership and work ethic.
• Exposure to advanced econometrics, statistics, machine learning, or natural language processing is preferred.
• Familiarity with market data sources such as Bloomberg, Haver, and CEIC, along with market conventions, is an advantage.
• Experience with regulatory analysis or policy frameworks is useful.
• Background in organizing investor events or managing external relationships is a plus.
• Knowledge of additional regional languages would be beneficial.

Qualifications

A master’s degree or higher in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline from a reputed institution is required.

Candidates should have 2 or more years of experience in economic research, macro policy analysis, financial markets, or a similar analytical role. Experience in sell-side, buy-side, central bank, or international organization environments is preferred.
