In this position, you will play a key part in delivering the category strategy by tracking important seasonal trends, partnering with suppliers, and working alongside Buying & Merchandising to create compelling, commercially strong ranges for Primark’s customers.

You will collaborate with design colleagues across the business to bring fresh trend ideas to a global audience. The role involves setting seasonal colour direction, building relevant colour palettes, identifying new shapes and graphics, and pushing innovation in fabrics and materials.

As a strategic and collaborative designer, you will work with Buying & Merchandising, sourcing, and technical teams to uncover growth opportunities, improve product, and support like-for-like sales in line with Primark’s wider strategy. You will also act as a trusted contributor within the BMD community, helping guide and motivate junior team members while strengthening cross-team partnership and the overall product offer.

  • Set seasonal colour strategy and encourage innovation in materials, trims, hardware, and construction to create distinctive products.
  • Own the full design and development journey for bags, footwear, and accessories, from the first concept through final approval.
  • Create balanced, customer-led ranges that fit the brand identity, category plan, and product structure.
  • Lead, supervise, and coach a design team while maintaining high expectations for quality, speed, and working practices.
  • Work closely with Buying, Merchandising, Technical, Sourcing, suppliers, and Brand teams to deliver consistently strong product execution.
  • Present category ranges for leadership approval and contribute to cross-functional groups and forums to support alignment and decision-making.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in design, specifically within accessories, together with proven people-management or team leadership responsibility.
  • Strong technical understanding of accessories, footwear, or bags, including materials, construction, and end-to-end product development.
  • A proven record of creating commercially successful, high-volume ranges by converting seasonal trends into product that appeals to customers.
  • Confident leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence and develop design teams.
  • Strong relationship management skills for working with stakeholders and suppliers, plus clear communication and presentation ability.
  • A proactive, organised, and accountable working style, with the ability to manage several priorities in a fast-moving environment and make sound decisions with integrity.

Benefits

  • Healthcare cover.
  • Pension plan.
  • Potential bonus.
  • 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Option to purchase 5 additional days of leave.
  • Tax Saver Tickets.
