Role overviewThis position focuses on sanctions and AML screening work within client policy and procedures. The analyst will review alerts, assess outcomes, and decide the next appropriate action based on regulatory and internal requirements.Key responsibilitiesCarry out sanctions screening reviews to a high quality standard and in line with regulatory expectations.Understand client procedures and apply them correctly in day-to-day work.Track referrals and queries proactively, following them through to resolution.Judge when a case should be escalated to a Subject Matter Coach/Subject Matter Expert or sent to the client.Handle the full caseload efficiently and keep cases moving within expected timelines.Check actual performance against plan and take action to support business goals.Support the fine-tuning and rollout of monitoring rules that help detect and prevent money laundering, fraud, and other financial crime threats as patterns evolve.Collect information from several systems and sources and enter it accurately into the main system.Perform PEP and sanctions screening using global tools.Compare individuals and entities against global sanctions lists issued by OFAC, the EU, the UN, and other government or international bodies.Review people and business entities flagged by high-risk scenarios.Differentiate false alerts, partial matches, and genuine matches, and apply discounting factors where appropriate.Use strong analytical and deductive reasoning to assess cases.When required, prepare unusual or suspicious activity reports (UAR/SAR) and share them with the Anti-Financial Crime Team or MLRO.Work toward daily quality and productivity targets.Qualifications and experienceA bachelor’s degree is required. The role calls for 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience, along with solid hands-on knowledge of sanctions screening and AML.Technical and functional requirementsBackground in operations with practical experience applying sanctions screening in a financial institution, ideally across 2 to 5 years.Crypto due diligence experience will be considered an advantage.Good working knowledge of AML and sanctions screening.Ability to assess key AML/CTF risks and emerging typologies quickly, and support proposed actions with AML Compliance partners.Strong drive to deliver results against targets and quality expectations.Ability to research and analyse complex compliance data in depth, including experience with AML behaviour detection platforms.Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with self-motivation and curiosity.Comfortable working accurately and efficiently under pressure, both independently and in a team.Adaptable to change in a fast-moving environment.Strong understanding of financial crime compliance obligations, including AML, CTF, ABC, and sanctions, at a senior level.Ability to produce detailed monthly MI for senior management.Behavioural expectationsCapable of working independently and also collaborating effectively with others.Highly driven, enthusiastic, and practical, with a strong sense of ownership and a can-do mindset.
