Payroll Administrator

About the role

A people-focused organisation is looking for an experienced payroll professional to join its busy bureau in Manchester. This position suits someone who can manage payroll operations from start to finish with a strong focus on accuracy, speed, and client service in a busy environment.

What you will do

• Run payroll processes end to end.
• Manage weekly, fortnightly, lunar, and monthly payroll runs while meeting client deadlines.
• Work out and apply statutory pay and related changes such as SSP, SMP, SPP, and similar items.
• Handle complex pay elements and large payroll volumes.
• Process adjustments, holiday pay, bonuses, overtime, and pay revisions.
• Support correct treatment of starters and leavers, including P45/P46 checklist handling and RTI submissions.
• Work closely with external clients to answer and resolve payroll queries.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues as part of a team.
• Provide support with managing, coaching, and developing team members.

What you need

• Demonstrable background in a UK payroll bureau or other high-volume payroll environment.
• Experience managing and coaching a team, including supporting learning and development.
• Strong understanding of UK payroll rules and HMRC requirements.
• High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Clear communication skills and a professional, friendly phone manner.
• Availability on an immediate or short-notice basis.
