HTML and CSS Developer

Role overview

In this remote contractor position, you will be paid by the hour to examine AI-produced HTML and CSS, user interface mockups, and technical write-ups. Your work will also include creating strong reference solutions and clear, step-by-step explanations for both straightforward and advanced frontend tasks.

The role is part of SME Careers, a rapidly growing AI data services company and a subsidiary of SuperAnnotate. The organization supplies AI training data to some of the largest AI companies and foundation model labs, and your frontend expertise will help improve AI systems used by developers around the world.

What you will do

• Review AI-generated frontend outputs for accuracy, clarity, accessibility, responsiveness, and compatibility across browsers.
• Spot issues in semantic HTML, Flexbox and Grid layouts, responsive behavior, CSS structure, selector specificity, cascading conflicts, and performance.
• Verify technical claims and correct any inaccurate or misleading information.
• Write polished explanations and model answers that reflect strong frontend best practices.
• Compare and score multiple AI responses based on correctness and the quality of their reasoning.
• Create prompts and reference solutions across HTML and CSS topics to support AI training.
• Test AI outputs for unsafe or incorrect recommendations and confirm they work in realistic UI scenarios.

There is no active project attached to this role at the moment. If you are a fit, you may be contacted first when relevant work becomes available, and you may also gain access to future projects through the expert network.

Your profile

• You should have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, HCI, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• You need at least 4 years of professional experience building production interfaces with semantic HTML and modern CSS.
• You must be highly skilled in layout techniques such as Flexbox and Grid, responsive design patterns, and component-based styling.
• You should understand accessibility fundamentals, including semantic structure, ARIA basics, keyboard navigation, focus handling, and WCAG-aware design.
• You need a solid grasp of browser behavior, including the box model, stacking contexts, positioning, rendering quirks, and cross-browser testing practices.
• You should be familiar with CSS maintainability practices such as BEM or similar naming systems, design tokens, variables, theming, and avoiding specificity conflicts.
• Exposure to modern styling tools such as Sass, PostCSS, Tailwind, CSS Modules, or styled systems is helpful, though the core focus remains HTML/CSS correctness.
• You must have at least C1-level English ability in both written and spoken communication so you can produce clear technical explanations and follow detailed instructions.
• You should have a track record of thorough code review and enforcing quality standards for accessibility, responsiveness, and maintainability.
• Experience with AI data training, annotation, or reviewing AI-generated technical content would be an added advantage.
• You should be highly detail-oriented, systematic, and able to identify subtle UI and reasoning issues with a methodical approach.
