Role overview

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to take ownership of the company’s database estate and related data storage platforms. The role focuses on keeping information available, secure, accurate, and high-performing across both conventional databases and modern object-storage data lake setups. In addition to core database work, this position involves administering S3-compatible storage systems such as MinIO to support analytics, application workloads, and large-scale data ingestion.

Database administration

Set up, configure, upgrade, and continuously maintain database platforms such as MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
Track performance and make targeted improvements through query tuning, indexing choices, and storage optimisation.
Apply database security measures, manage access rights, and ensure alignment with internal, legal, and regulatory standards.
Carry out routine backup activities, verify restore procedures, and contribute to disaster recovery readiness.
Investigate incidents, resolve outages, and restore database services as quickly as possible.
Oversee replication, clustering, and high-availability setups.
Partner with developers to build efficient database schemas and improve data structures.
Work alongside application teams and vendors to maintain reliability, security, and long-term supportability.
Create and update documentation covering database architecture, operating procedures, and best practices.
Assist with data transfers, platform integrations, and environment upgrades.
Support internal and external audit activities when needed.

Data lake and object storage administration

Administer object storage platforms, including MinIO, to support data lakes, backup needs, and application use cases.
Operate MinIO environments in standalone or distributed modes, including erasure coding, load balancing, and expansion across multiple nodes.
Plan bucket layouts, retention rules, lifecycle management, and storage tiering approaches.
Strengthen access controls, rotate credentials, and secure APIs for S3-compatible workloads.
Monitor system health, storage usage, I/O performance, and overall cluster stability.
Implement backup, replication, and disaster recovery measures for object storage systems.
Connect object storage with analytics tools, ETL pipelines, and application services through S3 APIs.
Work with data engineering teams on ingestion support, metadata handling, and large-object processing.
Help meet compliance and audit expectations for data lake environments.

Working arrangement

This is an office-hours position with rotating 24x7 on-call standby duties. The role also requires support across multiple sites in Singapore based on operational needs, and remote assistance for overseas deployments may be necessary.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate should bring practical database administration experience, strong SQL capability, and a solid grasp of database design. Hands-on knowledge of backup and recovery, performance tuning, Linux and/or Windows systems, and networking fundamentals is important. Experience with object storage or S3-compatible technologies, along with an understanding of distributed storage concepts such as replication, erasure coding, and cluster topology, is also expected.

Preferred capabilities

Additional value will be given to candidates who have deployed or managed MinIO in production, used automation or scripting tools such as Shell, Python, or PowerShell, and worked with monitoring platforms like Prometheus and Grafana. Familiarity with data lake design, tiered storage, lifecycle policies, metadata management, data warehousing, ETL processes, or relevant technical certifications will be an advantage.
