Job overview

The custodian will be responsible for keeping assigned spaces clean, sanitary, and orderly while following site procedures and safety practices.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general janitorial work and follow the daily work plan.
• Handle hazardous waste tasks such as collecting, separating, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packing special or hazardous materials.
• Use motorized cleaning equipment as required.
• Maintain the daily cleanliness and upkeep of the assigned area.
• Escalate incidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
• Follow all safety rules, policies, and operating procedures.
• Interrupt unsafe actions when they are noticed in yourself or others.
• Work collaboratively with other team members and complete repetitive tasks as needed.
• Keep the workspace tidy and follow all company protocols, rules, and procedures.
• Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately to oversight.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
• Cover work during staff shortages and assist the shift lead with punch-list items.
• Use required personal protective equipment and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Support customer service standards, understand satisfaction expectations, and follow reporting systems and environmental practices.

Qualifications and requirements

No specific formal education is needed. Prior training or experience of 3 to 6 months is preferred, though a similar combination of education and experience may also be considered.

A valid driver’s license may be required. Completion of safety and task-related training certifications is expected, and forklift certification may also be necessary.

Strong reading comprehension is needed to understand instructions, procedures, manuals, and related documents. Good spoken and written communication skills are important. Bilingual ability is a plus. The role also calls for familiarity with cleaning methods, cleaning equipment care, and the safe and effective use of cleaning chemicals and compounds.

Physical requirements

• This position may involve sitting and speaking or listening for periods of time.
• The employee must be able to lift or move up to 35 pounds.

Work schedule and compensation

The shift runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Pay is $12.50 to $13.50 per hour.
