Role overview

HMP Erlestoke is hiring an Operational Support Grade to help keep the prison operating safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. This is a practical, varied position within a supportive team, covering duties such as gate security, search procedures, delivery management, visitor supervision, and monitoring phone and CCTV activity.

The role combines desk-based work with hands-on tasks, including lifting, carrying, and walking across the prison grounds to escort vehicles. It is a fast-moving environment where calm judgement, teamwork, and common sense are essential.

What the job involves

You will contribute to the secure and smooth running of the prison while supporting important work that protects the public and affects lives every day. Contact with prisoners is limited compared with prison officers, although occasional interaction may happen depending on the site.

This position can also build valuable experience and knowledge of prison operations, with potential routes into other prison roles, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.

Pay and benefits

The salary for this role is £30,491.
