The Expeditor position involves applying established expediting knowledge to support procurement and project delivery. Working with guidance from more experienced colleagues and leaders, the role focuses on resolving routine expediting challenges, reviewing possible solutions through standard procedures, and strengthening understanding of the organization, its workflows, and its customers. The incumbent uses practical experience, sound judgment, and existing precedents to address straightforward situations and support the smooth movement of materials and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned projects and gain a clear understanding of the relevant expediting approach for each one.
• Carry out follow-up activities at the level required for the purchase order’s assigned expediting classification.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to track the progress of project materials and goods.
• Prepare accurate and timely project status updates and weekly expediting reports.
• Work with suppliers and stakeholders to close issues and remove blockers.
• Check purchase order delivery expectations to confirm they align with project needs.
• Assess the required expediting intensity and workload so material deliveries support project timelines and shop demands.
• Keep the company system updated consistently and circulate expediting reports to the project team and suppliers, highlighting progress, risks, and issues for review.
• Help ensure suppliers deliver all purchase order items on time so the project schedule is protected.
• Partner with procurement management to spot performance shortfalls and delays, including engineering drawing slippage, fabrication issues, late deliveries, sub-supplier coordination problems, and resource constraints.
• Make sure expediting matters are coordinated across departments, offices, fabrication activities, and construction teams to meet deadlines and project requirements.
• Inform logistics and work with them on material movements that are McDermott’s responsibility.
• Keep the focus on the final project output across procurement, engineering, fabrication, and construction activities.
• Promote clear communication between procurement teams, clients, project groups, and suppliers.
• Use company expediting procedures consistently and in line with internal policies.
• Handle additional expediting-related duties as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Supply Chain Management or a related field; alternatively, a high school diploma/GED/IGCSE plus 3 years of relevant experience.
• 3 to 6 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong understanding of the expediting process within procurement.
• Prior experience expediting supplier documents, piping bulks, electrical bulks, instrumentation bulks, and instruments such as regulators, gauges, and PSVs.
• Experience with mechanical equipment expediting is an advantage.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both procurement and non-procurement stakeholders.
• Good teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
• Familiarity with materials management systems used in procurement and logistics.
• Understanding of expediting systems that support project execution.
• Knowledge of the Unifi expediting process.
• Ability to apply learned knowledge to daily work activities.
• Understanding of the full materials management lifecycle.
