Role Summary
This full-time, on-site Baker position in Maidstone involves producing a range of bakery items such as bread, rolls, cookies, and other baked goods in line with set recipes and production plans. The role includes dough mixing and proving, oven monitoring, ingredient preparation, and finishing or decorating products when required. You will also help keep the workspace, equipment, and tools clean and in good order, monitor inventory, accept and store deliveries, label products correctly, and reduce waste wherever possible. Working as part of the wider team, you will help maintain product consistency, support smooth service during busy times, and uphold food safety and hygiene standards throughout the day.
Responsibilities
- Produce breads, rolls, cookies, and other baked items according to established recipes and production timing.
- Mix, shape, and proof dough while maintaining the expected quality, texture, and consistency.
- Track oven performance and baking progress to ensure products are baked correctly.
- Prepare ingredients accurately and handle food safely during all stages of production.
- Finish, decorate, and present products as needed to meet visual and quality standards.
- Keep workstations, utensils, and equipment clean, organized, and well maintained.
- Check stock, receive deliveries, store supplies correctly, and label products with care.
- Support waste reduction efforts and help the team maintain efficient service during busy periods.
- Follow all required food hygiene and safety procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a professional bakery setting with practical knowledge of bakery operations.
- Solid baking ability, including dough work, oven handling, and finishing products.
- Comfort with measuring, mixing, and preparing ingredients safely and accurately.
- Hands-on experience making bread and rolls, with awareness of proofing and texture control.
- Ability to produce cookies and similar treats consistently in both taste and appearance.
- Good understanding of food hygiene, safety rules, and cleanliness standards.
- Strong reliability, time management, and willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and peak trading periods when needed.
- Effective teamwork and communication, along with a professional and positive manner toward coworkers and customers.
- A bakery or catering qualification, or an apprenticeship, is helpful but not mandatory if relevant experience is demonstrated.
