Role overview
Priceline is hiring an Associate Software Developer focused on Java for its Technology organization in Toronto. The team works in an Agile environment and plays a central role in building and improving travel products that handle very high volumes of traffic and data.
This position follows a hybrid schedule with two days in the office. On the remaining days, you may work remotely or from the office, based on the arrangement with your manager.
Why this opportunity stands out
You will contribute to next-generation travel applications and help shape backend systems and REST APIs that support hundreds of millions of searches every day. The work involves partner data ingestion, parsing, and delivering reliable solutions for fast-moving business needs.
The role is suited to someone who enjoys collaborating with business stakeholders, experimenting with ideas, and building scalable systems in a team that values innovation, accountability, trust, and customer focus.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to important projects that directly influence the direction of the business.
- Work as part of a cross-functional Agile squad that regularly tests ideas, improves solutions, and releases new product capabilities.
- Use strong Core Java skills, or comparable programming experience, to build software components.
- Develop low-latency, high-throughput transactional services with continuous integration and automated testing practices.
- Write SQL queries and compose database statements to support real-time investigation and analysis of application data.
- Learn the codebase, system behavior, and business context well enough to make effective application changes.
- Collaborate respectfully with teammates, contribute ideas confidently, and balance differing viewpoints constructively.
What the company is looking for
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- At least 2 years of experience working with Core Java.
- Hands-on exposure to Node.js, including an understanding of how Node operates and familiarity with commonly used libraries.
- Strong SQL composition and query-writing ability for analysis and investigation.
- Solid knowledge of modern big data processing in both streaming and batch contexts, including tools such as Spark, Kafka, KSQL, Flink, and Apache Beam.
- Experience building applications that interact with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, Bigtable, or MongoDB.
- Comfort with Spring frameworks, web services, and API development.
- Exposure to microservices, Kubernetes, and Docker is considered a strong advantage.
- A track record of demonstrating the company’s values: Customer, Innovation, Team, Accountability, and Trust.
- Strong ethics and integrity, with an emphasis on doing the right thing the right way.
Compensation
The stated base salary range for this role is CAD 85,000 to CAD 100,000 per year. Some roles may also qualify for an annual bonus and/or equity grant, depending on eligibility and other factors.
