Support Service Worker

About the Role

Brightshores Health System is seeking a dedicated Support Service Worker to join our Support Services department in Markdale, Ontario. This full-time, onsite position involves a variety of essential functions within both the Food Service and Housekeeping areas. Reporting to the Support Services Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble food trays for patients.
• Deliver and retrieve patient food trays efficiently.
• Serve food items and stock designated pantries.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization within the food preparation areas.
• Perform cross-functional duties as assigned within the department.
• Conduct various cleaning and disinfecting tasks in clinical and public spaces.
• Clean and disinfect equipment used in patient care and public areas.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all clinical, public, and support areas throughout the facility.
• Undertake project-based cleaning initiatives.
• Manage the distribution and collection of linens, waste, and recycling materials.
• Adhere to all facility contingency codes and respond appropriately.
• Complete required training, including Code White.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Possession of a Food Safety Certification from a recognized institution, or a commitment to obtain one.
• Proficiency in following both written and verbal instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Competence in performing basic arithmetic calculations.
• Capacity to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
• Physical capability to perform tasks involving significant standing, bending, reaching, pushing, and transferring materials, including lifting items up to 50lb.
• Willingness and ability to work all shifts, including weekends.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Understanding and application of Public Health Standards for Safe Food Handling Practices.
• Knowledge of and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Control principles.
• Commitment to respecting and maintaining confidentiality.
• Demonstrated advocacy for patient safety and understanding of how departmental functions contribute to it.
• Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies.

Eligibility

This position is open to individuals who meet the required qualifications, including those with a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a willingness to obtain necessary certifications. Candidates must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, and demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands of the role. Experience in institutional food service or housekeeping is preferred but not required.
