Role overview
This position is for a Mechanical Shift Engineer supporting plant operations at a hydro power generation site in Andhra Pradesh. The role focuses on safe, dependable, and efficient running of generating units, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant systems while assisting the shift in-charge with operational control, compliance, and reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Keep generating units, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.
- Assist the shift in-charge in meeting statutory, environmental, HSS, technical, and cyber-related requirements from applicable central and state authorities such as CEA, CERC, DSA, SCEI, AP/CPCB, and related bodies.
- Help manage permit-to-work activities, including issuing and closing PTWs, checking isolations and LOTO, and ensuring all required documentation is complete before approval and closure.
- Support preparation of generation schedules, including day-ahead plans and intraday changes, and coordinate these with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with SLDC, RLDC, CTU, STU, CEA, SCEI, and other relevant agencies as required for routine plant operations.
- Operate as a shift engineer to help meet generation targets, pumping schedules, and instructions issued by SLDC/RLDC, while also liaising with SLDC/RLDC, DISCOMs, and TSO when needed.
- Allocate and monitor tasks assigned to shift engineers and technicians so that plant operations remain effective and optimized.
- Support the shift in-charge in preparing and implementing daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, along with related checklists.
- Assist with PPA compliance, DSM handling, and settlement-related activities.
- Work according to the approved operations plan to achieve annual generation targets, reduce APC where possible, and maintain agreed plant and machine availability.
- Maintain accurate day-to-day shift operation records for the plant.
- Contribute to IMS implementation and keep documentation updated for the assigned area.
- Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the shift in-charge from time to time.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- At least 8 years of O&M experience in the hydro power generation sector is required.
