Overview
This remote contract opportunity is for a junior illustrator to develop a set of 20–30 line-based dog drawings for a practical handbook aimed at everyday dog owners. The artwork needs to be both visually engaging and anatomically precise, supporting a guide grounded in science-backed, positive reinforcement training.
The illustrations will cover everyday routines, canine body language, enrichment activities, and reference charts. The ideal collaborator will be comfortable working remotely, able to show personality and emotion through clean line work, and experienced in depicting canine structure accurately. The final output will support a compassionate, fear-free approach to dog care and training.
Responsibilities
- Create 20–30 clear and expressive line illustrations of dogs with strong anatomical accuracy and character.
- Work with the handbook author to keep the visuals aligned with the book’s positive, science-based perspective.
- Turn written material into illustrations that represent routines, body language signals, enrichment concepts, and reference charts.
- Update artwork in response to feedback to maintain consistency and clarity throughout the set.
- Provide high-resolution digital artwork suitable for both print and digital use.
- Track deadlines, share progress regularly, and stay organized in a remote working setup.
Requirements
- Proven background in anatomical illustration, ideally with animals or dogs.
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong line drawing ability, character, and movement.
- Knowledge of positive reinforcement and fear-free training methods is a strong advantage.
- Ability to convert scientific and behavioral ideas into visuals for a broad audience.
- Skill with digital illustration software such as Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, or similar tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with a responsive approach in a remote freelance arrangement.
- Capacity to work independently and handle multiple rounds of edits.
