About the Company
Capricor Therapeutics is a biotechnology company focused on creating advanced cell- and exosome-based treatments for rare diseases. Its lead program, Deramiocel (CAP-1002), is a late-stage cell therapy under development for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Role Overview
The Process Development Scientist will drive the creation and improvement of biomanufacturing workflows aimed at increasing product output, quality, and cost effectiveness. The position emphasizes closed-system processing and scale-up, along with process optimization, evaluation of new technologies, mentoring of junior staff, and collaboration across functions to convert research findings into validated manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will help move process development efforts forward by leading scientific work, supporting team coordination, and partnering with manufacturing and quality groups.
- Advance and refine closed-system cell culture methods, especially for adherent cell manufacturing
- Plan, carry out, and analyze complex scientific studies
- Create and improve processes that solve manufacturing issues and support product advancement
- Guide and support a small project group, helping set priorities and keep work on schedule
- Oversee the scientific portion of cross-functional efforts and ensure they stay aligned with company goals
- Support intellectual property, scientific writing, patents, and internal presentations when needed
- Work with MSAT, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to turn research outcomes into practical execution plans
- Handle additional duties that support process development goals
Requirements
The ideal candidate should bring advanced scientific training, hands-on cell culture experience, and the ability to work across teams in a regulated environment.
- Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an M.S. in one of these fields with 7 or more years of relevant experience
- Practical experience with aseptic methods, including mammalian cell and tissue culture, with emphasis on large-scale adherent cell culture
- Proven ability to design closed systems and work with automated cell processing equipment
- Background in supervising junior scientists and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong communication and people skills with the ability to contribute in a team-based setting
- Preferred background in preparing or reviewing CMC sections for regulatory filings
- Working knowledge of regulatory expectations for cell therapy products
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Mostly lab-based work, with possible time spent in GMP areas for technology transfer and troubleshooting
- Requires extended computer use for analysis, documentation, and reporting
- May involve lifting lab materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to move through laboratory and GMP settings to support experiments and coordination
