Role overview

Downer is looking for an experienced Estimator to help produce strong, competitive tender submissions across the Southern region. This position can be located at one of the depots in the lower North Island or South Island, offering flexibility across the region.

What you'll do

This is a key commercial role requiring attention to detail, technical understanding, and confidence working with different stakeholders. You will support project teams through the full delivery cycle by preparing accurate estimates and contributing to pricing and tender strategy.

• Spot and evaluate opportunities in the local market to help drive regional growth
• Track future workload and resource availability to support tender planning
• Use consistent estimating methods and reporting practices across submissions
• Visit sites to review conditions, delivery approach, and resource needs
• Prepare tender submissions that are complete, compliant, and delivered on time
• Keep tender records and supporting documentation well organised and up to date
• Include health and safety, quality, and environmental requirements in every submission

What you need

We are seeking a commercially minded estimator who can turn complex project requirements into accurate and well-structured bids.

• Background as an Estimator in construction, infrastructure, or a similar industry
• Solid knowledge of tendering, pricing approaches, and commercial principles
• Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Strong accuracy and care in cost estimating
• Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Capability to juggle several deadlines and stay effective under pressure

Additional requirements

Successful applicants will need to complete a pre-employment drug screen, medical assessment, and a Ministry of Justice check before starting work. Support can be discussed if needed for these requirements.
