Overview

The ROC Society is hiring a Baker in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. This is a full-time, on-site position in a bake shop environment. The role involves preparing, baking, displaying, and handling a variety of baked goods while supporting day-to-day store operations and customer service.

Language Requirements

Education

No degree, certificate, or diploma is needed.

Experience

Applicants should have 7 months to less than 1 year of relevant experience.

Work Location

This job must be performed at the physical worksite. Remote work is not available.

The workplace is air conditioned.

Work Setting

The role is based in a bake shop.

Key Duties

You will prepare dough, batters, icings, and frostings for a range of baked goods, following recipes or customer-specific orders. The job also includes baking the products, checking quality standards, and keeping kitchen and food service areas in good condition. You will operate equipment, manage stock, replenish shelves and displays, mark prices, keep inventory organized, and help with packaging orders for customers, shipments, or deliveries. General cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping are part of the role, along with customer service and receiving, counting, weighing, or sorting incoming products.

Food Specialties

This position focuses on breads and rolls, desserts and pastries, as well as donuts and muffins.

Security and Safety: A criminal record check and reference are required.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands: The role calls for strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. You should be comfortable with heavy lifting, repetitive movements, standing for long periods, working under pressure, and bending, crouching, or kneeling as needed.

Weight Handling: The position may involve handling items weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
