Role overview

This position is responsible for leading turbine assembly activities within manufacturing engineering, with focus on HP, IP, LP turbines and rotor-related assemblies. The role requires strong technical understanding of assembly methods, precision fitting, tooling, quality checks, and coordination across internal teams and customer-facing inspections.

Technical expertise required

• Solid knowledge of turbine assembly workflows covering HP, IP, LP turbines, rotors, casings, and diaphragms.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, tolerances, and engineering specifications accurately.
• Practical familiarity with precision instruments such as dial gauges, micrometers, laser alignment systems, and torque tools.
• Understanding of critical fits, shrink fits, mandrel handling, and interference fit practices used in turbine assembly.
• Knowledge of hydraulic tightening, torque application, and bolt tensioning methods.
• Awareness of special assembly operations such as heating, cooling, oil flushing, rotor balancing, and barring gear trials.
• Understanding of shop-floor safety norms for handling heavy parts and crane-based lifting operations.
• Exposure to welding, NDT, and quality expectations relevant to turbine assembly work.
• Hands-on capability to diagnose assembly problems and correct dimensional variation issues.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule and oversee daily turbine assembly work across LP, IP, HP, and rotor assemblies.
• Assign manpower, tools, and fixtures to support smooth and efficient execution.
• Ensure all assembly steps follow the approved sequence, procedures, and work instructions.
• Develop and standardize assembly processes, checklists, and SOPs for consistent execution.
• Contribute inputs for jigs, fixtures, and special-purpose tooling needed for assembly tasks.
• Support adoption of new technologies and digital solutions for precision assembly.
• Maintain compliance with drawings, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
• Enable inspections, measurements, and testing at defined critical checkpoints.
• Handle NCRs and deviations, and assist with root cause analysis along with corrective actions.
• Track availability of parts, consumables, and assembly tools to avoid delays.
• Work with the supply chain team to ensure timely arrival of critical components.
• Keep measurement devices and torque tools calibrated and in working condition.
• Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and QA teams to close technical issues.
• Support project managers with schedule, cost, and resource planning inputs.
• Interact with customer representatives during inspections and assembly milestones.
• Promote lean practices, Kaizen, and waste elimination across assembly operations.
• Recommend and implement improvements that shorten assembly cycle time.
• Use resources efficiently while controlling cost without affecting quality.
