Job description

About Abnormal AI

Abnormal AI is a leading AI-driven security platform designed to shield enterprises from a broad range of cyber threats. Utilizing behavioral AI that comprehends both human and machine identities, our technology detects and blocks attacks that bypass traditional security defenses, including advanced email threats, identity compromises, and SaaS abuse.

Trusted by over 2,500 organizations, including more than a quarter of the Fortune 500, Abnormal AI analyzes billions of identity signals daily to safeguard people and data at large scales.

Role Purpose

To meet growing demand, our Behavioral Identity Security division is expanding its team focused on Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM). This area continuously monitors enterprise identity systems such as Okta, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Entra to uncover hidden risks. ISPM delivers these insights in comprehensive, actionable formats that help security teams understand their defense posture and prioritize necessary interventions.

As identity becomes the predominant attack vector in modern enterprises, having thorough visibility and proactively mitigating risk is critical. The ISPM team is one of our fastest-growing units, and we seek a Software Engineer to build advanced identity security solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop end-to-end backend solutions from defined product requirements, involving data modeling, API creation, and evaluation logic.
  • Contribute to the architectural design of core identity security posture systems, author and review technical documentation.
  • Engage in design discussions, evaluating trade-offs and edge cases for scalable system architectures.
  • Maintain engineering standards including testing, code quality, API design, and system observability.
  • Build and scale backend services using Go, encompassing event-driven components, REST/gRPC APIs, scheduled tasks, and integration layers.
  • Design and optimize database schemas suited for large-scale, multi-tenant identity data handling.
  • Implement and manage event-driven workflows using Kafka for asynchronous processing and continuous posture evaluation.
  • Ensure service reliability via runbooks, feature flags, and monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with team leads, engineering managers, and peers to define features, prioritize tasks, and meet quarterly goals.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident responses, and uphold service level objectives.
  • Operate autonomously within a distributed team across Singapore and India.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years in software development, including approximately 2 years developing production-level backend services.
  • Strong experience writing idiomatic Go code for backend services, emphasizing clean design, testing, and error handling.
  • Proven ability in system design for scalable, multi-tenant, event-driven distributed architectures.
  • Hands-on expertise with Kafka or comparable high-throughput event streaming technologies.
  • Advanced skills in SQL and PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and multi-tenant data modeling.
  • Effective communication skills to articulate technical trade-offs, contribute to design documentation, and collaborate with technical teams.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, making decisions with incomplete data, and iterating rapidly.
  • Familiarity with AI-supported software development workflows and tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or knowledge in identity security, identity and access management (IAM), or security posture management.
  • Background in cybersecurity product development.
  • Familiarity with gRPC and Protobuf API design.
  • Production-level skills in React and TypeScript for occasional frontend contributions.
