Role overview
The Scrum Master will champion Scrum principles to help the team deliver high-quality software that meets specifications and aligns with technical as well as business goals. This role also focuses on team motivation, servant leadership, and creating a culture of trust, learning, and psychological safety. A key part of the job is encouraging collaboration across functions and supporting steady delivery of value.
Key responsibilities
- Guide teams and customers on Agile values, practices, and ways of working.
- Ensure Scrum events are run properly and with the right focus.
- Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Encourage the use of Agile indicators such as velocity, throughput, and cycle time to drive improvement.
- Support visibility and tracking using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Miro, or Azure DevOps.
- Clear blockers that slow the team down and shield the team from unnecessary outside disruptions.
- Act as the main contact point for customer teams.
- Plan, coordinate, monitor, and drive software delivery work.
- Define execution plans and communicate responsibilities, outputs, and timelines clearly.
- Take ownership of project execution and manage customer expectations.
- Support quality throughout development and ensure ongoing maintenance is handled well.
- Build and maintain positive customer relationships.
- Partner with the Product Owner on backlog grooming and prioritization.
- Work with the customer Product Owner to rank project work and technical debt appropriately.
- Review requirements and help shape technical design specifications.
- Convert design inputs into process and program specifications.
- Coach, train, and guide team members so they can perform effectively.
- Ensure the team receives the training needed to complete its work.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in software design and development project work, including at least 3 years in Agile projects.
- Comfortable working in a team environment and applying adaptive, servant leadership based on the situation.
- Experience with cross-functional Agile teams that include developers, UX, QA, DevOps, and product stakeholders.
- Degree or Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering.
- Self-driven, positive, creative, and strong in presentation, communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and persuasive skills.
- Able to build and sustain respectful, trusting relationships.
- Strong written and spoken English skills.
- Flexible and effective in hybrid or remote work settings.
- Exposure to Agile approaches such as Scrum, XP, or Kanban.
- Experience using user stories for requirements documentation is an advantage.
- Agile certifications such as CSM, CSP, PSM, PPO, or PMI-ACP are preferred.
- Project management certifications such as PMP, CITPM, or Prince2 are an advantage.
- Experience facilitating Agile delivery in customer-focused product teams is preferred.
- Preferred experience in Agile delivery for cloud solutions on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with Design Thinking or Lean UX is useful.
- Exposure to scaled Agile frameworks such as SAFe or LeSS is preferred.
- Experience running Scrum of Scrums or Agile release planning across multiple teams is valuable.
- Ability to collaborate with distributed teams across different time zones.
- Comfort using facilitation tools such as Mural, Miro, or Jamboard.
- Experience running Agile health checks or continuous improvement workshops is an advantage.
