Scrum Master

Role overview

The Scrum Master will be responsible for hands-on, day-to-day project coordination across multiple application development initiatives. This role requires deep familiarity with complex IT environments, Agile and Scrum practices, and a strong record of delivering work on schedule and within budget. The Scrum Master will act as a central point of support for the team to help ensure project outcomes are achieved successfully.

About the employer

The Clearing House is a banking association and payments company owned by the largest commercial banks in the United States. It operates key U.S. payments infrastructure and is actively modernizing that platform through a new real-time payments system. The organization is the only private-sector ACH and wire operator in the country, processing and settling nearly $2 trillion in U.S. dollar payments daily, which accounts for roughly half of all commercial ACH and wire volume. Its history in banking services dates back to 1853, and its core offerings support services such as direct deposit, bill payments, and check image exchange.

Required qualifications

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A Scrum Master certification is required. The role also calls for hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence, with Miro considered a plus.

Applicants need at least 5 years of related IT management experience covering analysis, design, development, documentation, implementation, and testing of software systems. In addition, the position requires 5+ years of technology project management experience and 3 to 4 years of Scrum Master experience. Experience leading Agile development work as a Scrum Master is also expected.

Strong candidates will have experience with complex, mission-critical system design and the ability to assess and recommend alternate software solutions. A solid understanding of secure development practices is essential. The job also requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, the capacity to prioritize and manage several assignments in a fast-moving environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, a professional approach, and the ability to work well with colleagues across the organization. The ideal applicant will be highly motivated, organized, enthusiastic, and proactive. Banking and payments experience, especially with SWIFT, FED, CHIPS, or ACH, is preferred.

Preferred qualifications

Additional value will be given to candidates with experience in wholesale or retail banking technology. Experience building or moving applications to cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is also desired, along with knowledge of information security tools and processes including vulnerability management and identity/access management.

Key responsibilities

The Scrum Master will partner with Product Management, Operations, and Technology teams to guide projects through the full lifecycle while helping scrum teams maintain agility. The role includes supporting requirements documentation, creating user stories, building detailed project plans, and defining tasks, roles, and responsibilities.

Other duties include monitoring milestones and dependencies, ensuring work from all groups is completed on time, and proactively identifying, reducing, and resolving risks and issues. The Scrum Master must also ensure PMO procedures are followed and that all required project artifacts are created and properly stored.

This position also involves tracking and reporting project financials, keeping senior leadership informed of project progress, and communicating concerns promptly. The role works closely with the Enterprise Program Management Office to provide project updates.

Success in this role depends on the ability to manage several projects at once, communicate effectively with internal teams at all levels and external clients, and keep work moving through to completion with strong attention to detail and organization. The ideal person can also influence project stakeholders to drive positive outcomes.

Work environment

The work is primarily sedentary and is performed in a standard office setting with normal lighting, temperature, and typical office equipment. The environment is generally comfortable and free from hazardous or unpleasant conditions such as excessive noise or dust.

Onsite and travel expectations

Employees are expected to work from the office two to three days per week, although onsite expectations may change at any time. Occasional travel may also be required.
