Role overview
This position is responsible for steering relationship-led banking activities for government and PSU clients, covering Central and State government bodies at the ministry/secretariat level. Working under the guidance of the team leader, the role focuses on building, strengthening, and sustaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders across ministries, committees, and autonomous institutions.
Core responsibilities
- Bring in new government clients and manage an assigned portfolio of Central and State PSU accounts.
- Strengthen and preserve relationships with current clients.
- Promote banking solutions and identify opportunities for cross-sell.
- Continuously work to increase wallet share across the client base.
- Develop strong familiarity with the full range of products offered to customers.
- Stay closely connected with operations teams to support smooth transaction processing and delivery.
- Execute marketing initiatives aligned to the client segment.
- Support the Relationship Management Group with industry, client, and market research and analysis.
- Draft credit approval and renewal notes, along with risk-analysis reports for the client portfolio.
- Translate customer needs into product inputs and collaborate with product teams to improve offerings.
- Coordinate with financial markets, investment banking, and retail banking teams to create cross-sell opportunities for government and PSU customers.
- Oversee management, recovery, and NPA-related actions for the assigned customer cluster.
- Assess staffing needs and required capability levels to deliver services effectively.
Required competencies
- Strong network and working knowledge of Government of India, state governments, PSUs, and the relationship dynamics with key bureaucratic stakeholders.
- Experience in government banking marketing concepts, including building, launching, and scaling funded and advisory products.
- Entrepreneurial mindset.
- Proven ability to deliver outcomes in a matrix-driven organization.
- Understanding of how technology is applied in banking.
Experience
The role requires 6 to 8 years of banking experience, including at least 3 to 4 years in government banking and client account management. Prior exposure to handling government clients is preferred.
