Pipe Welder - Inconel

Role Overview

Qatar Fabrication Company is hiring a pipe welder with strong hands-on experience in Inconel and related exotic alloys for its Ras Laffan site in Qatar. The role reports to the Welding Supervisor and focuses on producing high-quality welds that meet radiographic testing standards while maintaining productivity and strict compliance with company policies.

Core Duties

• Carry out daily work based on instructions from welding supervision.
• Work in line with the company’s HSE, quality, and ethics requirements at all times.
• Prepare welding machine settings independently according to the WPS.
• Use only calibrated welding equipment for assigned welding activities.
• Read and understand English enough to interpret WPS requirements correctly.
• Identify base material types and choose the correct consumables as per WPS.
• Follow consumable storage and usage procedures from the sub-store through final consumption.
• Keep PPE on throughout the job and comply with all personal protective equipment rules.
• Recognize likely weld defects and apply suitable preventive and corrective measures.
• Check joints before welding, including root gap, bevel angle, root face, and Hi-Lo, and escalate any WPS deviations to the foreman.
• Preheat the workpiece using a hand torch whenever the WPS requires it.
• Perform root inspections during welding, including window checks, to confirm there are no visible root defects such as LOP or LF.
• Complete the final inspection of the weld and clean the joint before moving on to the next task.
• Carry out weld repairs when required.
• Record pre-weld and post-weld details in the weld matrix.
• Work on welding tasks in tandem with another welder when the job requires simultaneous joint welding.

Technical Experience Required

• Hands-on experience welding CS, SS, SDSS, Inconel, and Cu-Ni/CRA materials to radiographic quality standards.
• Practical knowledge of GTAW, SMAW, PGMAW, and SAW processes.
• Experience welding large-diameter pipes, including sizes 28 inches and above, for CRA materials.
• Ability to weld exotic materials without discoloration or oxidation.
• Working knowledge of purge systems, purge methods, and purge dam arrangements, including suggestions for critical joints.
• Knowledge of the correct tools and equipment to use for each material type.
• Understanding of material storage and segregation practices as per approved procedures.
• Experience performing erection and positional welds, including 6G joints.
• Ability to use advanced welding equipment and methods such as TIG and GMAW.

Qualifications and Background

• High school education.
• At least 8 years of trade experience.
• Trade training is required.
• Industrial Training Institute background will be considered an advantage.
• Multiple process qualification will be an added advantage.

Additional Information

This position is based in Ras Laffan, Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Qatar, and is offered on a full-time, onsite basis. The role is focused on delivering RT-quality welds, including repair work when needed, while following project-approved procedures at every stage.
