Events Assistant

About the role

The Royal Air Force Museum is hiring three Events Assistants to support its London-based events operation on a seasonal, part-time basis. The role offers 10 guaranteed hours per year, with additional overtime available until 31 March 2027. Pay is £14.80 per hour.

This is an in-person position at the museum’s London site and is primarily connected to the Public Events Team. The work is varied and may involve assisting with family activities, large visitor events, and selected commercial events.

About the organisation

The Royal Air Force Museum operates as a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB), and a registered charity. It has two public museums in London and the Midlands, plus a stored collection in Stafford.

The museum’s purpose is to share the RAF story across past, present, and future through the experiences of its people and its collections, with the aim of engaging, informing, and inspiring visitors. Its vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story and the people who shape it.

What you will do

• Help prepare event spaces before activities begin and clear them down afterwards
• Support the smooth running of the museum’s public events programme
• Improve the visitor experience by assisting with activities and event delivery
• Support a range of events such as Airfix Model 2 Club sessions, school holiday workshops, the Barnet Food Festival, the annual paper aeroplane contest, and other large commercial events
• Process any same-day sales linked to events
• Guide and assist Event Maker volunteers during event operations
• Protect visitors, colleagues, and museum property by following security procedures and responding appropriately to heightened incident measures

What the museum is looking for

• Proven experience in a customer-facing setting, ideally with strong service skills
• Experience working collaboratively in a team and sharing relevant knowledge
• The ability to work with energy, pace, and efficiency to complete tasks
