About MKG

MKG is a women-led creative agency founded in 2003 that focuses on brand experience. The agency helps brands connect with people through storytelling, purpose-led engagement, strong design, and high-quality production. Its client roster includes brands such as Google, Target, Netflix, Meta, HBO, Delta Air Lines, Béis, and Spotify, and the team works from offices in New York City and Los Angeles while supporting work beyond those locations as needed.

Working Style

The organization places a strong emphasis on the full experience, not only the end result. Team members are expected to pay close attention to detail and collaborate closely with thoughtful, supportive colleagues. The role is open to candidates based in New York or Los Angeles, provided they live within commuting distance of either office and can be present in person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

This opening starts as a four-month short-term assignment and is expected to transition into a full-time role.

Role Summary

MKG is seeking a concept-driven Creative Director with a strong storytelling instinct, strategic thinking, and a refined visual sensibility. The person in this position will guide major client work from idea through delivery while supporting and motivating a team of creative strategists, copywriters, and designers. The role combines marketing strategy, concept development, and art direction with the ability to shape memorable, brand-building experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Create and present original creative concepts for new and existing business, with a strong focus on experiential work and omnichannel execution.
  • Lead projects from kickoff through completion while keeping the executive creative lead informed.
  • Run brainstorming sessions, shape and refine ideas, build persuasive presentations, guide the team, and provide clear feedback to keep the work aligned with the vision.
  • Analyze client briefs, question assumptions, and push ideas into new and more distinctive directions that inspire brand action.
  • Develop internal design briefs, gather reference inspiration, and direct designers with a clear aesthetic viewpoint and strategic storyline.
  • Present ideas with strong reasoning and enthusiasm to both internal teams and client stakeholders.
  • Spot possible project or client risks early and take steps to reduce them.
  • Coach and oversee direct reports from different creative backgrounds, helping them grow in both craft and leadership.
  • Review the work of direct reports, offer direction, share best practices, and recommend next steps.
  • Join briefings and brainstorming sessions for team projects to help shape early thinking and action plans.
  • Push the team toward stronger, strategy-led, results-focused creative output.
  • Contribute to agency growth by thinking strategically about the work, clients, and pitches that move the business forward.
  • Take creative ownership of key client relationships and help strengthen the agency’s reputation.
  • Stay current on industry shifts, new technology, and evolving creative practices, and share those insights with the broader team.
  • Support agency-wide needs such as case studies, awards entries, and marketing efforts.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to build effective presentations quickly.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in advertising, experiential, marketing agencies, or brand-side roles.
  • Demonstrated success delivering effective campaigns for major brands.
  • Strong interest in culture and an active connection to creative communities that support idea generation.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and move projects forward with clarity, direction, and decisiveness.
  • Ability to support the growth of direct reports and help shape their career paths.
  • Confidence in presenting and defending ideas persuasively, backed by insight and sound reasoning.
  • Capacity to manage a high volume of work while also mentoring team members.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with clients, partners, and internal teams.
  • Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and creativity in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, humor, curiosity, empathy, and respect in day-to-day collaboration.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent background.
  • Willingness and ability to travel when project needs require it.
  • Comfort with occasional non-standard working hours, including evenings and weekends, due to the nature of experiential work.

Additional Information

This role is based in the New York City Metropolitan Area, with eligibility for candidates in both New York and Los Angeles. In-person collaboration is required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and candidates must be located within commuting range of one of the two offices. The position may involve occasional travel and non-traditional hours depending on project demands.
