Role Overview
The Contracts Analyst is tasked with preparing, checking, executing, and maintaining trading contracts and confirmations for assigned commodity products. The position ensures documents match agreed commercial terms and comply with approved templates, policies, and internal controls. It also supports smooth trade execution while helping reduce contractual and operational risk throughout the trade lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, examine, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements connected to physical oil and products trading.
- Verify daily trade entries and keep system records accurate and up to date.
- Assess and negotiate General Terms & Conditions so they remain aligned with internal risk standards and business goals.
- Review contract language to spot commercial, operational, and legal exposures, then ensure protections are included and concerns are escalated when needed.
- Help refine and implement processes, controls, and systems as new products, markets, or business lines are introduced.
- Develop productive relationships with internal teams and provide advice that is clear, practical, and commercially relevant.
- Assist in handling disputes, claims, and operational matters that arise during trade performance, coordinating with internal stakeholders and legal counsel.
- Take on additional duties assigned by the manager as required.
Candidate Profile
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Law, or a similar discipline is expected.
- Applicants should have 2 to 5 years of experience in trading operations, trade support, or contracts administration, ideally within commodities or financial markets.
- Working knowledge of Incoterms and how they apply in trade transactions is required.
- The role calls for strong commercial judgment and comfort working in fast-moving trading settings.
- Candidates must be able to review contract structures and evaluate risks and opportunities in a practical way.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to explain contractual positions to internal stakeholders.
- A solid grasp of contractual risk allocation, including liability, indemnities, and insurance, is important.
- Attention to detail is essential, particularly for spotting inconsistencies, missing information, and areas of risk exposure.
- Applicants should be well organised, resilient, and able to manage several live transactions at once.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required.
