Role Overview

This position is for an experienced AS/400 developer who can lead a team, work with stakeholders to understand requirements, and deliver reliable solutions on the AS/400 platform. The role involves building, improving, testing, documenting, and supporting applications while collaborating with technical teams and driving quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide and support a team of AS/400 developers through design, development, and ongoing support of web applications.
• Partner with business users and technical groups to understand and evaluate application requirements.
• Create and improve solutions using AS/400 languages and tools such as RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, and DDS.
• Build clear, efficient code that implements business rules and application logic on the AS/400 environment.
• Carry out unit testing and debugging to confirm application stability and correctness.
• Maintain legacy AS/400 systems by resolving defects, troubleshooting issues, and improving performance.
• Work with developers, database teams, and system administrators to connect AS/400 applications with other systems and databases.
• Prepare and update technical documents such as design notes, coding standards, and user guides.
• Keep track of new AS/400 technologies and trends, and suggest improvements or alternate approaches where useful.
• Support integration, data migration, and deployment work with cross-functional teams.
• Review code and give practical feedback aligned with standards and best practices.
• Spot risks or issues early in AS/400 applications and recommend suitable fixes.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar discipline is required.
• At least 3 years of AS/400 development experience using RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, and DDS, along with a minimum of 3 years in team leadership or team handling.
• Strong knowledge of AS/400 development concepts, including file processing, flow control, and data handling.
• Hands-on ability to debug and troubleshoot AS/400 applications effectively.
• Experience using AS/400 development tools such as SEU, PDM, and RDi.
• Working knowledge of DB2 and other relational databases in the AS/400 ecosystem.
• Understanding of performance tuning and optimization practices for AS/400 systems.
• Ability to work both independently and in teams, with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Capability to convert functional and non-functional needs into system specifications.
• Comfort with SDLC, agile methods, estimation approaches, quality standards, and testing practices.

Eligibility

This role is open to candidates with a B.C.A. in any specialization, B.Sc in any specialization, or B.Tech / B.E. in any specialization.
