Role summary
The Workshop Manager will lead fabrication and prefabrication activities and take ownership of the workshop’s daily performance. This position is central to ensuring pipework fabrication packages are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard for projects throughout Ireland and Europe.
The role requires close oversight of workshop staff, production flow, quality control, and process improvement, while also coordinating with project and site teams to meet delivery requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Direct the workshop on a day-to-day basis and make sure production goals are met safely and efficiently.
- Supervise, encourage, and develop fabrication personnel including welders, pipefitters, fabricators, and apprentices.
- Organise fabrication schedules to align with project demands and agreed delivery timelines.
- Track output, labour usage, and overall workshop performance.
- Confirm that all fabricated pipework matches technical specifications, quality expectations, and client standards.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Site Teams on fabrication priorities and material needs.
- Enforce compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures at all times.
- Oversee workshop machinery, maintenance planning, and resource planning.
- Drive improvement initiatives aimed at better productivity, quality, and operational effectiveness.
- Carry out toolbox talks, performance reviews, and ongoing training activities.
- Assist with procurement planning, inventory control, and materials handling.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Workshop Manager, Fabrication Manager, or Senior Supervisor position within mechanical, piping, fabrication, or engineering operations.
- Solid knowledge of pipework fabrication, welding methods, and mechanical installation processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workshop teams and coordinate fabrication work.
- Capability to interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics, and engineering documents.
- Strong organisational, planning, and leadership abilities.
- Clear commitment to safety, quality, and ongoing improvement.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and production planning software.
- Valid full driving licence.
- Advantageous: experience on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or large commercial projects.
- Advantageous: knowledge of quality management systems and welding quality standards.
- Advantageous: exposure to lean manufacturing or other process improvement methods.
