Welder/Pipefitter

Role overview

This position involves journeyman-level welding, cutting, and metal fabrication work in a welding shop and field-support setting. The role also includes welding, fabrication, and repair tasks as needed to support project requirements.

Key duties

• Carry out shop and field welding work at journeyman level using SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes, while making sure the output aligns with project rules, technical manuals, and industry norms.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and change or modification orders to plan layouts and complete tasks efficiently, economically, and effectively.
• Produce metal items from technical drawings or customer samples through welding, cutting, and fabrication across different metal types.
• Support and guide junior welders so internal operating procedures and quality standards are consistently followed.
• Handle the welding testing and qualification process, including test plate checks for assigned personnel, and keep the welding qualification program current and compliant.
• Use oxygen/acetylene, carbon arc, and plasma cutting tools to dismantle assemblies and cut material to the required size and shape.
• Follow all applicable OSHA, AFOSHA ES&H, and fire-safety requirements at all times.

Education and experience

• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a weld shop is needed.
• At least 1 year of experience in welding inspection is required.
• The candidate must be a qualified journeyman.
• Hands-on experience with power tools, power saws, cranes, drills, and similar equipment is expected.

Additional requirements

• A valid U.S. driver’s license is mandatory.
• A valid U.S. passport is preferred.
• The candidate must be able to satisfy all current USCENTCOM deployment policy requirements as stated in the applicable deployment policy document.
• Ability to secure and maintain a valid residency visa for Qatar is required.
• The role requires working in severe environmental conditions, including dust and very high temperatures.
• The job also demands the ability to tolerate long working hours and exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
• Travel is required 100% of the time in the deployed location.
• A DoD Secret security clearance is required and must be maintained.
