About Palos Wealth Management
Palos Wealth Management Inc. is an independent investment firm dedicated to disciplined portfolio management and providing a modern wealth management experience. We collaborate with individuals, families, and institutions to construct portfolios aimed at achieving long-term outcomes. Our approach integrates public and private market investment opportunities with personalized, technology-driven strategies.
The Opportunity
Palos is seeking a bilingual (English/French), client-centric Wealth Advisor in Montreal, Quebec. This role involves leading client relationships and delivering a superior wealth management experience. The primary focus will be on servicing and expanding an existing client base while actively pursuing new client acquisition. The successful candidate will guide clients through discovery and planning, develop comprehensive Investment Policy Statements (IPS), and implement model portfolios within Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs). Responsibilities include ongoing rebalancing, considering client-specific tax and personal factors, and ensuring portfolios adapt effectively over time. This position combines relationship management, SMA execution, advisory services, and business development, ideal for a professional who excels in client-facing, growth-oriented environments.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Act as the main point of contact for an existing client portfolio, ensuring high levels of ongoing service and engagement.
- Enhance and expand current relationships by identifying opportunities to deepen client involvement and increase assets under management.
- Lead client discovery sessions, covering Know-Your-Client (KYC) procedures, financial planning inputs, and goal setting.
- Create and present tailored Investment Policy Statements that align with client objectives.
- Provide continuous advice and relationship management, ensuring portfolios remain aligned with client goals.
- Serve as the primary liaison between clients and the Investment Team responsible for portfolio construction and execution.
- Collaborate with Client Service Associates to ensure a consistent and high-quality client experience.
- Maintain precise client records and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
SMA Implementation and Rebalancing
- Implement model portfolios within client SMA accounts according to Investment Team directives and target allocations.
- Monitor SMA accounts for deviations from target asset allocation and perform rebalancing when Investment Team thresholds are met.
- Incorporate client-specific considerations during rebalancing, such as tax lot selection, capital gain/loss management, timing, and client exclusions.
- Coordinate with the Investment Team on model updates and ensure prompt, accurate implementation across all client SMA accounts.
- Document all portfolio adjustments, rebalancing activities, and the underlying rationale within each client file, adhering to compliance standards.
- Communicate portfolio changes and rebalancing strategies to clients clearly, promptly, and in an appropriate manner.
- Identify tax-loss harvesting opportunities specific to each client account and execute in conjunction with client tax situations.
Business Development
- Cultivate and manage a pipeline of potential clients through networking, referrals, and business development efforts.
- Identify new asset opportunities and convert prospects into lasting client relationships.
- Contribute to overall asset growth through both client retention and new client acquisition.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in wealth management, private banking, or advisory roles.
- Portfolio Manager registration or eligibility for registration is required.
- Completion of the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is mandatory.
- Full bilingual proficiency in English and French, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages, is required. English proficiency is essential for regular interaction with clients, business partners, and service providers across Canada and the United States.
- Proven track record in managing and growing client relationships, including asset retention and expansion.
- Demonstrated success in business development, including asset gathering and client acquisition.
- Solid understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, and investment strategies across public and private markets.
- Experience in preparing and presenting Investment Policy Statements and integrating financial planning into client service.
- Experience managing discretionary SMA accounts, including rebalancing and trade execution.
- Familiarity with custodial and portfolio management platforms, financial planning software, and CRM tools is advantageous.
- Knowledge of tax-efficient portfolio management, including tax-loss harvesting, lot selection, and capital gain management.
- Familiarity with exempt market products and alternative investments is a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts simply.
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and a structured approach to processes.
What Sets This Role Apart
- Direct responsibility for managing an existing client base and driving new business development.
- Access to a dedicated Investment Team for model portfolio construction, allowing advisors to concentrate on client-specific SMA implementation, tax optimization, and relationship management.
- Opportunity to access curated private market investments through Palos' exempt market dealer arm.
- A collaborative team environment supported by Client Service Associates.
- A chance to significantly contribute to the growth and direction of the Palos wealth platform.
- Operate within an independent firm offering direct access to principals, an entrepreneurial culture, and efficient decision-making.
Compensation
