Role overview

This full-time Utility Worker position is based at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. The role supports kitchen and facility operations by keeping food preparation and service areas clean, sanitary, and orderly.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is between $13.00 and $15.00 per hour.

What you will do

You will help maintain cleanliness and organization across kitchen and support areas, including equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and storage spaces. The role also involves moving and storing supplies and helping with basic setup and cleanup tasks as needed.

  • Wash dishes by hand or use a dishwashing machine.
  • Clean and sanitize work surfaces, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and otherwise keep floors clean.
  • Remove trash and garbage to the proper disposal areas.
  • Use approved cleaning chemicals to maintain sanitary standards for equipment.
  • Restock items such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
  • Be prepared for substantial walking and mobility during the shift.
  • Remain standing or walking for long periods, potentially for more than 8 hours.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop, push, and pull as needed.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Arrive on time and consistently attend scheduled shifts.
  • Carry out other assigned duties based on operational needs and client requirements.

Qualifications

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required. Prior related work experience is not necessary. You should also have a basic understanding of sanitation practices, including food safety fundamentals.
