Role overview

Northpower is hiring 5 Utility Workers to support a range of projects involving site setup and cabling work. In this role, you will help prepare and maintain worksites, install electrical distribution assets, and contribute to safe, efficient field operations. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys hands-on work, is physically capable, and prefers being outdoors.

Site preparation and cabling

  • Spot hazards and establish safe work areas before work begins.
  • Dig trenches and locate underground obstructions.
  • Fit electrical distribution assets as part of project work.
  • Use specialised installation equipment and truck-mounted cranes.
  • Check that tools and equipment are suitable, compliant, and ready for use.

Delivery and performance

  • Carry out work in line with Northpower, customer, and regulatory expectations.
  • Work toward productivity goals and help the team meet its targets.
  • Respond to issues promptly and find practical solutions.

Teamwork and communication

  • Keep clear communication with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and suppliers.
  • Help build a positive team environment and reflect Northpower PRIDE values in daily work.
  • Contribute to strong customer experiences through reliable service.

Continuous improvement

  • Share ideas that could improve safety systems, work methods, or procedures.
  • Take an active role in your own learning and development.

Health, safety, and environment

  • Maintain full compliance with safety rules, industry standards, and procedures.
  • Record and report incidents quickly and accurately.

Equipment care

  • Keep tools, PPE, and equipment clean, compliant, and used appropriately.
  • Make sure company vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will bring reliability, a strong work ethic, and a clear commitment to safety. You should be comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting, digging, and other manual work, and be able to understand obstruction plans. Strong verbal and written communication is important, along with a safety-focused mindset and a solid safety record.

Requirements and additional information

NZ work rights are required for this role. Pre-employment screening will include police checks as well as drug and alcohol testing.
