Role overview

The Transportation Operations Center (TOC) acts as Amazon’s central control point for transportation execution across the supply chain, supporting regions such as North America, India, and Europe. The team keeps freight moving smoothly from vendors to fulfillment centers and from fulfillment centers to carrier hubs, while stepping in quickly when exceptions arise. In addition to resolving issues in real time, TOC analyzes recurring disruptions, identifies trends, and helps improve or automate processes to make operations more efficient. This function is essential to maintaining reliable transportation and supporting on-time customer delivery.

What this role does

A Transportation Representative supports information flow between carriers, hubs, warehouses, and other internal and external partners, resolving issues that could affect customer experience or business continuity. The role spans both inbound and outbound transportation work.

Inbound operations focus on vendor, carrier, and fulfillment center coordination so freight is picked up on schedule and delivered to the fulfillment center according to appointment. Outbound operations focus on coordination between fulfillment centers, carriers, and carrier hubs so shipments leave on time and reach customers as promised.

The role requires research using internal tools, fast decision-making, and the ability to act on data and operational signals. Candidates should understand logistics fundamentals, communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats, and be willing to suggest and drive process improvements through to completion. This position works in a 24x7 environment and supports real-time customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with external partners such as carriers and vendors/suppliers, as well as internal teams including retail, finance, software support, and fulfillment centers.
• Retrieve and analyze data from multiple systems, including Excel, Access, SQL, and other databases, to support ad hoc reporting and investigation.
• Track and interpret performance metrics to help improve business outcomes.
• Translate business needs into clear functional requirements for technology teams that build and improve TOC tools and systems.
• Assess the operational impact of trends and make practical decisions based on available data.
• Escalate data issues, exceptions, and operational variances to the right owners, then follow through until resolution.
• Work effectively within tight time constraints while monitoring and documenting completed activities.
• Create clear written summaries of weekly findings, explain variances to goals, and present updates in review meetings.
• Support real-time operations in a round-the-clock environment.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should have experience communicating with multiple stakeholders, including senior leaders and cross-functional teams. Strong working knowledge of Excel at an advanced level, especially Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs, along with SQL, is required. Experience in fast-paced, high-performance teams and contributing to innovative solutions in complex business settings is also expected. A 10+2 educational background is specified.

Preferred knowledge includes Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing initiatives, transportation and logistics, and fulfillment/distribution center operations.
