Job description

About the Role

Deutsche Bahn is seeking individuals looking for a career change to become Switch Operators. This program is ideal for those reorienting their professional path, perhaps after a period of parental leave. You will receive an attractive salary during the retraining period and work alongside experienced colleagues upon completion. This opportunity is for a Trainee Switch Operator (m/f/d) with DB InfraGO AG in Eilenburg, Falkenberg/Elster, or Torgau.

During Your Retraining

The retraining program involves theoretical instruction at regional training centers and practical application, ideally close to your home. The full-time program runs for 39 hours per week, combining classroom learning with hands-on experience. You will join a class of 12 participants to acquire the necessary skills for the role.

Responsibilities After Retraining

  • Operate train traffic using levers, buttons, and rotary switches on small and medium-sized signal boxes, following instructions from the train dispatcher.
  • Conduct track inspections, signal track clearance, and ensure track readiness.
  • Monitor train movements and document operational actions in compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with colleagues in the signal box, train dispatchers, and control centers.
  • Oversee and regulate railway lines, and manage track blockages during disruptions.

Your Profile

  • Possess at least a qualified secondary school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss).
  • Maintain composure and a clear overview even in challenging situations.
  • Own a car and be willing to commute within your local area.
  • Be prepared for shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, demonstrating flexibility.

Additional Information

Applications from already qualified Switch Operators are also welcome. Deutsche Bahn is committed to equal opportunities, promoting diversity and inclusion. All candidates are assessed based on suitability, regardless of background. We value every application.

Benefits

  • Enjoy 16 free train journeys within Germany annually, plus additional travel discounts like the DB Job-Ticket for your commute. Family and friends can also benefit from discounted travel.
  • Secure a long-term career with a stable employment contract in a forward-thinking corporation.
  • Up to 34 days of vacation, with flexibility to choose between more time off, reduced working hours, or increased earnings to suit your lifestyle.

Equal Opportunity

DB Group strongly upholds principles of equal opportunity, self-determined participation for individuals with disabilities, and respectful collaboration. Therefore, applicants with disabilities will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified.
